Rooting - connecting with the energy of the earth - helps develop strength, balance, and harmony. In these workshops students will learn Taoist breathing and energy dissolving techniques to help them receive energy from the universe and send it downward to their roots in the earth. We will also learn standing techniques that provide a solid base for the Tai Chi form, Push Hands and overall good health. The techniques in these workshops will be understandable to beginners and invaluable to continuing practitioners hoping to better themselves in their art. Students are welcome to take the entire workshop or only half. Open to students of all traditions and levels of experience. Part 1: GROUNDING BALANCE AND STRUCTURE - Open to All. Noon 2:30 PM Traditional Taoist standing, breathing and movement practices will help students release tension and become more balanced and energized. Heron Breathing helps students relax the breath, strengthen the body and create a grounded and balanced structure, while simultaneously invigorating the internal organs and calming the mind. Coiling Hands Chi Kung will help students activate the bodies natural spiraling pathways, loosen the joints and tone the muscles. These coiling movements are the key to the internal power of Tai Chi and Chi Kung and will help students bring energy outward from their center to their fingertips where it may be used for health, work, or martial readiness. Part 2: SENSITIVITY AND YIELDING: COOPERATIVE PUSH HANDS - Open to All. 3:30 6:00 PM Taught in a friendly and noncompetitive environment, this cooperative style of Push Hands helps practitioners to develop sensitivity and balance and inspires harmonious interactions in everyday life. In this workshop we will work with partners and focus on activating the body's natural circularity to release blocks, and relax body and mind.
